Beyond Boundaries is a 10-track playlist aiming to feature 10 “out-of-the-box”, outstanding gems!  Not exactly unclassified, but certainly unique and uncommon.

“Sound Explorer”: Christos Doukakis

beanboi

(leftfield bass, experimental electronic)

Quick pitch: A gem inspired by beans, memes, and laser beams, with the intention to create an overstimulated musical experience that was impossible to ignore, even for the most easily bored people, including the artist himself

The Tiptons Sax Quartet & Drums

(jazz, improvisation, world music)

Quick pitch: ‘Wabi Sabi’ is inspired by and named after the Japanese philosophy that translates roughly as “find beauty and take pleasure in the imperfect”. The track promises a forthcoming collection of new music to illustrate the sometimes unexpected beauty in our chaotic world.

Sheers

(art pop, jazztronica)

Quick pitch: Scuttling, sampled percussion underlies Ashby-esque harp lines and Deerhoof-y guitar that snake through the beginning of ‘Wet Plastic’, amassing a curious fog for Breshears’ lyricism to emerge from.

Mr. Eos

(glitch, experimental electronic, psychedelic rock)

Quick pitch: A glitch adventure via a raw, psychedelic road….. Mr. Eos’ genre-breaking opus is vital for any sonic explorer!

A\D|D/L

(drum n’ bass, breakbeat, glitch)

Quick pitch: Heavy experimental track with huge amounts of distorted basses and percussion. A rare beast!

Mouse Dog Bird

(neofolk, ambient)

Quick pitch: Written from letters written to me by my friend and bandmate who passed away due to drug overdose… All proceeds going to a local women’s health organization.

Jack Broza

(Feat. Griffin Brown)

(indie pop, experimental electronic)

Quick pitch: In ‘Lifeline’, a murky sea of throbbing guitar samples sets the scene for the story’s setting—a dark San Fransisco afternoon. The cloudy musical texture is pierced by direct lyrics that pull no punches; “Best friend died, it’s all there in the instagram archives.”

Jody Bigfoot

(Feat. Numb’n’dub & Catarrh Nisin)

(experimental hip-hop, grime, bass music)

Quick pitch: A compelling mix of hip-hop, bass music and grime with the vital aid from one of Japan’s best grime MC’s…

Kidi Band

(art rock, folktronica)

Quick pitch: Combining the sounds of early Animal Collective with tUnE-yArDs vocal layering, and there’s a punk attitude coursing beneath.

Son Lux

(indie electronic, experimental)

Quick pitch: Thick punches of percussion enter & the song navigates a thick fog of sound. Instruments remain mostly out of focus, but in brief moments, flurries of strings & woodwinds emerge and recede from the fog.
