Beyond Boundaries is a 10-track playlist aiming to feature 10 “out-of-the-box”, outstanding gems!  Not exactly unclassified, but certainly unique and uncommon.

“Sound Explorer”: Christos Doukakis

Sam Quealy

(synth-pop, electro, gabber)

Quick pitch: ‘Klepto’ is a song about a ( fashionable) kleptomaniac! She has a compulsion to steal – regardless of whether she needs it or not… She goes from stealing clothes, boys hearts, to her chance in life!

The song is an electro – pop , techno , gabber hybrid. The lyrics incorporate rap, poetry and more than a touch of humour.

Nazım Sabuncu

(feat. Yasemin)

(world music, funk, psych)

Quick pitch: ‘Fidayda’ is an old Traditional from Turkey. In our interpretation we tried to put a vintage funk groove together with the oriental world music flavors.

Shrine Maiden

(doomgaze, noise, drone, shoegaze)

Quick pitch: Directly off the coast from our vantage point on the hill of dreams, we lament the death of summer, and cautiously journey through its long final night that by morning will have birthed the first golden leaves of fall and the beginning to the rest of our lives. A doomgaze must by Shrine Maiden, ideal for noise purveyors…

McDead

(electro blues, experimental electronic, idm)

Quick pitch: A noisy hypnotic electronic LOFI blues influenced track with an IDM drone, launched by deep bass and drifting guitars. Written and recorded in Belgrade Serbia, the song is inspired by many peaceful protests against nuclear weapons by McDead’s dad… Take this wild ride!

Orcas are Dolphins

(jazztronica, neo soul)

Quick pitch: ‘Floral Aura’ shows that electronic jazz can be both upbeat and laid back. Fresh synth, sax, and drum solos within.

Orcas Are Dolphins make Jacques-Yves Cousteau proud, and we just cannot stop listening!

Wigwolf

(lo-fi rock, experimental, art punk)

Quick pitch: This unorthodox, lo-fi rock oddity is about Wigwolf’s superstardom. Not for everybody, but iconic for Beyond Boundaries’ series and Last Day Deaf!

Evo Auxilium

(glitch, experimental electronic, idm)

Quick pitch: A song which starts out with a chill idm vibe featuring a soft blanket of synthesizers that envelop the listener in their warm glow. As the song progresses, some very glitchy drums appear and add a nice groove. As the song comes to a close, a sudden chaotic switch-up appears and pulls the listener into a vortex of metallic and mechanical sounds.

Evo Auxilium at his best!

Jan Esbra

(experimental electronic, ambient)

Quick pitch: This piece was created by improvising with a Ditto x4 looper pedal. The music feels like it’s always evolving, yet there is something that keeps bringing it back to itself, thus eternally recurring while moving forward. New York City-based Colombian guitarist and composer Jan Esbra delivers the good with this uncommon, seductive, electronic treat!

Dino DiMuro

(progressive rock, math rock, lo-fi rock)

Quick pitch: Los Angeles born Dino DiMuro lives in the wrong era! ‘Single Guy with a High Income’ is a progressive rock, “Beefheart-ian” opus straight from the 70s!

Zuneg

(dark wave, post rock, gothic, trip-hop)

Quick pitch: ‘Vampire/Replicant Saga’. The immortal meets machine is this epic love story/battle between the two. At 5:48 the battle starts to build. Electronic voices represent the Replicant from Blade Runner. Guitar and vocals represent the vampire presence. I refer to this as post gothic. I hear post music as well as 80s gothic in our music. ‘…not enough’ is its magnum, opus, opener!
