ARTIST: Horse Doctor
TRACK: Sinking
‘Sinking’ is the most recent single by Montreal based alternative rock quartet, and it’s a dynamic blend of post-grunge, and alternative rock, while the band themselves describe it in their own words as “Soundgarden meets frantic Fall of Troy guitars mashup”. Definitely, on our radar for their future releases.
ARTIST: Colour Tongues
TRACK: Ashgrove
A highly energetic alternative pop-rock treat by Vancouver group Colour tongues, about learning to sink or swim as a teenager and being on the precipice of adulthood. Excellent guitar work and competent vocals!
ARTIST: The Lavender Scare
TRACK: Red Letter Edition
Alternative/indie rock duo from Los Angeles, CA comprised of multi-instrumentalists James Delos Reyes and Luis Servin, recently gifted us with their single ‘Red Letter Edition’, a moody alt/indie rock slow-burner, with new wave influence and emotive vocals. These dudes definitely love the first era of Radiohead, and (used to) have Cure posters in their rooms!
ARTIST: Blue Traffic Lights
TRACK: Out of Air
Copenhagen-based trio Blue Traffic Lights’ ‘Out of Air’ is among the most outstanding songs from their just released debut album ‘Equilibrium’, an upbeat, alternative rock dynamite with psyche elements, and according to its creators “is about stress and living in a world that pressures you to be someone you’re not or do things that are way outside of your comfort zone”.
ARTIST: Prettier Now
TRACK: Dilate
New Jersey trio Prettier Now achieve with their latest single ‘Dilate’ is sounding both melodic but with the amplifiers on red, especially after the 2.30 mark, when the track switches up to a sentimental vortex. Beautiful song arrangement, well balanced vocals, and bleeding guitars vital for every “emo” kid!
ARTIST: The Slashes
TRACK: Valentine Slip
San Diego trio The Slashes, Esteban Rene (vocals/guitar), Beto Bautista (bass), and Carlos Robles (drums), prove with their ‘Valentine Slip’ single, that they may genuinely combine alternative rock, post punk and gothic rock, and the result is just stunning. According to Esteban Rene the song is “about accepting our true nature, the duality of the good and bad in this character, with one side winning eventually and giving in to his true self”. Gloomy rock for the “creatures of the night”!
ARTIST: Jaclyn Rachelle
TRACK: No Questions, No Comments
Splendid visuals, in your face attitude, powerhouse vocals, eclectic mic of alternative rock with electronica and industrial elements, and bitter lyrics about “that weird grey area you can get in when you’re “dating” or “seeing” someone”. Jaclyn Rachelle’s ‘No Questions, No Comments’ is wild, direct and definitely not for for the faint-hearted.
