Returning after a two-year hiatus, Wisconsin-based duo Foreign Fields, comprised of Brian Holl and Eric Hillman, unveil their mesmerizing single Damages. Recorded at Hive in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with engineer Brian Joseph (known for his work with Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens), the track merges lush ambient indie folk with dreamy textures. Anchored by a gentle piano motif, Damages incorporates vocal samples and skewed noise, conjuring ghostly echoes in a dreamlike reverie. Eric’s introspective lyrics, inspired by a poignant dream during a period of personal turmoil, delicately unravel the complexities of healing: “I guess I’ll be alright, as the damages subside,” he sings, leaving an indelible impression as the song softly fades into the ether.
