Alex Ashley‘s long-awaited inaugural track, Honeychild, is a powerful blend of blues, rock, and Americana. This zealous self-introduction pays homage to his family’s southern roots and Black heritage. The track is inseparably tethered by his mother’s side to the Deep South and by his father’s side to a rich African-American legacy in the American Heartland. With expressive vocals, excellent guitar work, and compelling organ elements, Honeychild encapsulates the fusion of musical genres and cultural influences.
“I am deeply, proudly influenced by where I came from. The more you learn about yourself, the more it informs what you have to say,” Ashley said. “While it’s not reflected lyrically, this song has a lot of significance for me in that, as my first single, I wanted it to mirror the depth of those influences in a musical way.”
