Aussie band Close In’s ‘Night Vision’ is an alluring blend of synth-pop, dark wave and post punk, characterized by the emotive vocals, the intense Cure-esque, eerie soundscapes and the powerful lyrics, which “ask whether it’s possible to see things from another, more optimistic perspective“.

Total Chroma recently teamed up with the Vancouver synth-pop icon, Devours, undertaking the vocal duties, and the result is an impeccable, minimal synth banger running 100 miles/hour, downhill without brakes! Well, kind of…. On endless repeat!

Copenhagen-based producer TOM and His Computer (the alter ego for veteran Thomas Bertelsen) recently gifted us with a more “New Order than New Order” gem, an oneiric, new wave anthem, with the fairy-like vocals by Cosette Gobat, which is out via Trentemøller’s In My Room label….

Heavily influenced by iconic acts like Joy Division, Bauhaus, and Siouxsie & The Banshees, and in reaction to losing their original vocalist,  South Georgia’s Heaven Slept deliver the goods with the fast & furious, shoegaze-y, post punk/dark wave anthem ‘Pressure’. Great stuff!

Paint and Copter returned more productive than ever(!), after a 10-year hiatus with their second full length release of 2022 (after March’s ‘Abandoned Cities‘), ‘Future Tense’, from which we chose the nihilistic, dark wave with post rock finishing touches, magnum opus, and title track, which sound like mid 90s-era Front Line Assembly jamming with Tones on Tail, and Mogwai behind the console! Mixed up? Press the play button below!

Finishing with the Finnish band The Fair Attempts, and their authoritative synth-pop/dark wave single ‘Dark Star’, with great lyrics “to remind us how we tend to poison our minds by harboring negative thoughts and storing them in the corners of our mind“.
