Illbe, the brainchild of Gauthier Gilissen, first emerged in the alternative scene around Liège and Brussels. The project recently unveiled the video for Troops are Coming, an intense, experimental ambient electronic treat with slowcore finishing touches and a cinematic flavor, featured in the Long Gone EP. Beyond its seemingly ethereal façade, the music reflects an anxious nostalgia, evoking memories of a troubled childhood. The video, directed by Laurent Noël, serves as an ideal companion to the mysterious soundscapes, presenting a quiet, claustrophobic nightmare symbolizing the overwhelming proportions of muted emotions within family settings. It echoes the avant-garde sensibilities reminiscent of Michael Haneke’s “Funny Games”.
