Lætitia Sadier, sometimes known as Seaya Sadier, is a French musician best known as the vocalist in STEREOLAB.
Sadier was working as a nanny when she met McCarthy guitarist Tim Gane at a gig in Paris during the late 1980s. Sadier was disillusioned with the rock scene in France, and soon moved to London to be with Gane and to pursue her career. She contributed vocals to McCarthy’s final albums and when McCarthy broke up in 1990 and she and Gane immediately formed the hugely influential Stereolab. In 2010 she released a solo album called The Trip. In 2012 she released her second solo album entitled Silencio and this was followed up by ‘Something Shines’ which came out on Drag City in 2014 and a new record, also on Drag City in Spring 2017…
Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble
Another New Year, and new shapes are forming – if only we are fortunate enough to notice them! As we spin through this world, we are witness to all manner of combinations unfolding before us – familiar arcs and breaking waves alike, upon all of which it is our choice, our chance and our challenge, to possibly ride. Find Me Finding You, the new album from the new organization called the Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble, manages to strike new chords while touching familiar keys in the song of life.
Plus special guests…
Mauno
If boredom really does breed creativity, then Nova Scotia weirdo pop-rock sophisticates mauno must be four intensely bored individuals. “Halifax is a weird little town,” says frontman Nick Everett of the Canadian peninsula they call home, where life unfolds in a slow-drift of tiny moments never more than a stone’s throw from the sea. “At times, it’s really boring, which I find useful for writing songs—not being distracted. I arrived here on a failed hitch-hiking trip and just keep getting drawn back.” Formed in September 2014, Mauno – pronounced Mao-no, and named after bassist Eliza Niemi’s adamantly unmusical Finnish grandfather – have a wandering sound that refuses to be pinned down. Song to song it strays from twisting grunge-pop to piano ambience to string-accompanied haze.
“The group flick a switch from simmered-down to thunderous, just like that. Loose and ready to explore, there’s always a sense that they could take on just about any territory.” DIY

Polypores
Polypores, aka Stephen James Buckley, is based in a tiny home studio in Preston, and makes haunted space music using an ever-expanding mound of synthesizers, samplers, and old tape recorders. Bleak, icy drones give way to 1970’s Sci-Fi synth lines, throbbing bass rumbles ominously beneath a psychedelic haze of wistful melody and disembodied voices.
Polypores’ first physical release, “A Shunned Place” combined Carpenter-esque synths with slo-mo electronica and Radiophonic tape weirdness, and was released on Concréte Tapes in October 2015. 2016 saw his first vinyl release,”The Fialka Transmissions” on Polytechnic Youth Records, which sold out all 300 copies in a week. He has self released a number of EP’s and albums digitally, and regularly contributes to compilations on boutique label A Year In The Country. In late 2016 his “Timeholes” CD sold out within a couple of hours.
In early 2017 the “Wastes” EP was released on Concréte Tapes, and will be followed by 2 more albums on vinyl for Polytechnic Youth later in the year. He is also working on soundtracks for 3 films, and numerous other side projects.

Vukovar
Last seen here supporting Rose McDowall (although you never know, you might see them here again before this one!), Vukovar hail from the St Annes/Wigan/St Helens axis of evil. They emerged thirty years too late to take up their rightful place at the Leeds Futurama Festival, but nonetheless at the right time for their acerbic, bass-heavy post-punk to be informed by Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, Sisters of Mercy, J.G. Ballard, J.G. Thirlwell and The Coachwhips.
Resourceful and prolific, Vukovar have put out two great albums, ‘Emperor’ and ‘Voyeurism’, in the last 12 months on the Small Bear label and some more provocatively-titled releases on the way, which will be unveiled at this gig. Make sure you turn up early to see one of our favourite North-West acts!
