One of the most iconic saxophonists, a pure jazz master,  composer, arranger and big band leader, with a career of over 7 decades, Jimmy Heath (“Little Bird“) has passed away at the age of 93 on January 19th, 2020, according to The New York Times.

Born on the same year, 1926, with the other two master sax players, John Coltrane & Miles Davis, Heath is the man who brought bebop sound to big bands. wrote numerous, timeless, original compositions and the velvet, noir sound of his tenor sax will be echoing in our head, mind and souls until the earth stops turning…

In a 2013 interview with NPR he highlighted how important it was to be a complete musician. “Not just to stand up and improvise“. “You know, you got to compose. I want to be a person who can compose, and leave something here for posterity.”

“Little Bird” will eventually join his mentor “Bird”…..
