Almelda – ‘MIND’

About Almelda

The duo from Hull, Molly Beacock and Harry Oetegenn proposed the idea of forming the band after they discovered their shared love for Blues, Jazz, Folk and Psychedelic music. The pair are directly inspired by the artists; Julia Jacklin, Angel Olsen, Mazzy Star and Big Thief, which drove them to create a Dreamy, Psychedelic, Folk sound.

Establishing themselves as Almelda in 2020 seemed like the right thing to do, with Molly being a singer/songwriter and Harry being a music producer. Whilst their ideas flowed, it became more and more apparent that they wanted to share their music, that’s when the band was formed.

Sofi Gev – ‘Shakedown’

About Sofi Gev

Sofi Gev is the solo project of American singer-songwriter and indie pop artist Hannah Lovelady. Influenced by such artists as Birdy, Aurora, Maggie Rogers, Coeur De Pirate, Regina Spektor, Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond, and Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes, her music layers introspective, offbeat lyrics and delicate vocals over a dreamy blend of indie pop, electronica, and indie folk. Her earliest and most enduring musical influence came from her father singing Joni Mitchell songs to her at night as a child.

Sofi Gev’s songwriting began in her childhood, entertaining herself on family road trips by making up silly songs with her younger sister. After piano lessons, she started playing the French horn in middle school band class and continued through high school. She honed her sense of melody by singing the words of recipes from cookbooks accompanied by her father playing acoustic guitar.

If you listen closely, you will hear revealed in an intimate yet universal way a woman bravely, fearfully, but honestly embracing and confronting life.

Wake Island – ‘Nouvelle vague’

About Wake Island

Wake Island is an electronic producer duo originally from Beirut and now based between Montreal and New York. Through their music, they attempt to reconcile their Arab roots with their North American lives, infusing Middle-eastern sounds into songs that are inspired by Detroit techno and 80-90s pop/rock.

The band is comprised of Philippe Manasseh and Nadim Maghzal, who met in Montreal in the early 2000s. While pursuing a biology Ph.D. and a finance degree, they became part of the flourishing local music scene and threw themselves into a series of musical projects.

In 2016 came their sophomore album “Out”, a work of self-aware transition and a vehicle for personal and spiritual awakening. This record was a milestone, affirming Manasseh’s queer identity and the band’s electronic sound. It was followed in early 2017 by the “Sentimental Animals” EP, a collection of dance tracks that set the tone for their next album, the result of a long evolution and introspection.

Wake Island is currently cementing its place in their local Arab and queer scenes. Their upcoming full length offers songs in three languages (English, French and Arabic) that testify to a truly personal perspective on modern life in Western societies. The band forged a personalized approach to their live performances, deep-diving into their core energy to create a celebration of diversity and musically unique experiences to surprise their public each time.
