Tonight we feel more than enthusiastic to host the exclusive video premiere on Last Day Deaf of Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nathaniel Paul‘s ‘So What‘. This airy-fairy gem is slightly different from the artist’s usual stuff, since it’s an acoustic folk ballad, with touching vocals, and perhaps the most esoteric and intimate sample of his artistry. The optimal, accompanying video follows the story of a couple with their ups and downs, their anxieties, their caring moments, while Nathaniel Paul appears like a Deus ex machina with his acoustic guitar to ease the tension, in a more straightforward, a la Michael Winterbottom‘s “I Want You” setting. And thank Nathaniel, there’s catharsis in this drama! Such a gem!
“So What” is a stripped back recording. This song was written during a really dark time. What if everything I had been working hard for simply doesn’t work out? Then what? I just wanted a simple song to play out the concept in a laid back and chill way.” (Nathaniel Paul)
