8 current tunes to sharpen your Aural Intelligence.
I find it almost impossible not to mention the resemblance of Asheville death-rock band Secret Shame‘s singer Lena with living Legend Siouxsie Sioux, especially with this goth/post-punk gem ‘Gift‘. Taken off their just released full-length album ‘Dark Synthetics‘, Nathan (drums), Matthew (bass), and Billie (guitar), and of course Lena, play this so-much-needed avid & highly energetic music to raise us from the social media lethe. Banger!
Last day Deaf has believed in Pinemoon (read their 9+1 Q&A!)since their debut single ‘Sinister‘, and judging by the atmospheric “slo-gaze” opus ‘Miracle‘, we are gonna keep on! Awesome B&W video, Twin Peaks‘ references and heavenly melodies that will seep into your brain for dayzzz. And yes, this is their most Slowdive track via their very own unique style. Adorable!
Moving to Sydney under the guidance of Liquid Time and their psyched out, surf rock with jangle-y guitar work, ear-candy ‘Living‘ that will remain on repeat on your hot indie 2019 playlist for weeks. Summer may be over in most parts of this solar system, but these Aussies will help us ‘refresh’ our tan lines for a bit more!
If I had to choose one track for 2019 for its unexampled indie dance attitude, this would defo be ‘Don’t Save Me‘ by Glass Spells. Anthony Ramirez (Bass / Synthesizers), Tania Costello (Vocals) & Michael Buehl (Drums / Electronics) is a talented trio from Southern California, that have supported acts like Alice Glass, PRAYERS, Moving Units. Van She, The Growlers among many others and play a great indie electronic meets new wave blend with ultra catchy noise pop hooks . Pump up the volume!
Luke Steele and Elijah Gunderson are the creative forces of the Utah based electronic “tandem” VAEJA and I just cannot get enough of their stellar ‘The Second Side‘ (off their debut EP). A downtempo track with sublime atmospheric soundscapes and over the top production which clocks in just 138 seconds, but its pithy enough to glue on your head for an eternity. Addiction…
Ready to step into the weird, and wildest side of music? Komfortrauschen and their minimal techno visualiser ‘Reflex‘ is that seven and a half minute trip you should take. A continuous build-up on the repetitive minimal techno patterns, like visiting that isolated steelwork Fabriek (factory in German!), and riding on its rusty assembly line. But wait, think I lost it. Moonstruck!
L.A. based artist Elais Park‘ proves with his latest track ‘Scam Likely‘ that he’s more than capable of unleashing the most uncommon blend of experimental, hip-hop, blues and out-of-the-box samples. All the aforementioned, with an ideal mixing and production. Dope!
Another great band from Dublin? Yup, Girl Band‘ are ‘Going Norway‘ and they will blow your speakers up with their fiery noise-rock/post-punk sound off their album ‘The Talkies‘ out on Rough Trade. Don’t underestimate this 4-piece band; they play maximum rock n’roll and they sound like “The Jesus Lizard on acid”! Sheer noise attack…
