What inspired you to first start making music? And how did you come to be in your current incarnation? Or if you prefer, a brief bio about you.
Well it was mainly a love for the music we would hear, that’s what you get hooked on, and it drives you to make the music yourself too. Regarding our history, Stefanos (vocals, guitar) and Iacovos (drums) were childhood friends and had played together in a band back in high school. Stefanos then spent some time in the US, where he started The smallest Creature as a solo project. Upon return to Larnaca though, he joined with Iakovos and eventually Andreas (guitars, backing vocals) and Pavlos (bass) to form today’s quartet.
Provide us with some info about your latest release…
Magic Beans is a full-length album with 11 songs (48 minutes), released on September 30th 2020. It was a lot of fun seeing the songs come to life in rehearsals and then recording, and very satisfying to see the completion of the whole project, recorded and produced in an excellent studio, Hot Soap Studios, by our own Andreas, and the artwork done by Pavlos.
Which ones would you consider your main influences both music-wise & non-music-wise?
A lot of the music figures of the 90’s would qualify as our influences, from AIC to Radiohead, but also other acts scattered over time, from The Beatles to The Arctic Monkeys. Non-music-wise maybe Michael Faraday or Paul Dirac.
In what way does your sound differ from the rest genre-related artists/bands and why should we listen to your music? In other words, how would you describe your sound?
We are our own special blend of influences and sounds it’s all. We focus on bringing out the raw emotion, often in the most minimal way – not too many tricks – and not necessarily trying to be sweet to the ear with something too much tried-and-true.
Please name your 3 desert islands albums, movies & books…
– Superunknown, Vs. , Sgt. Pepper’s LHCB
– One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Dune
– Stalker, Brazil, Pulp Fiction
Do you prefer studio or performing live and why?
As cliche as it may be, there’s something more exciting and invigorating about performing live.
Is there any funny-unique story you would like to share with us, always in relation to your music ‘career’?
Nothing appropriate comes to mind at the moment.
Which track of your own would you point out as the most unique and why?
Of course this is a bit of a hard one… Maybe ‘Glow’ or ‘Would you Blink’.
Would you like to share with our readers your future plans?
Hopefully when the current world madness ends we can go on a tour and do some gigs. We’ll always be working on new material too, maybe also on some music videos for the new album.
Free question!!! (Ask yourself a question) you wish to answer and haven’t been given the opportunity…
