What inspired you to first start making music? And how did you come to be in your current incarnation? Or if you prefer, a brief bio about you.
I am Maverick Holiday and I want you to break from the fears holding you back from following your intuition and living a fulfilled life doing cool shit you want to do and not just being a robot following a soul crushing routine because of doubt and somebody’s expectations of you. My songs illustrate my struggles with desires, fears, expectations that come with the modern human experience. My producer ‘This Guy Fux’ is a sonic genius and has captured instrumentally the raw moods and themes of life.
Provide us with some info about your latest release…
Brisbane’s Maverick Holiday has recently hit the West End music and political scene running for local candidacy on the foundation of music and vibe enhancement. To promote his campaign he has launched his debut single release “Hot New Singles in Your Area” and shortly after backing it up with another single release and his financial anthem “FUND$”.
Hollywood is the first song I cut my teeth on as an artist. I wanted to make a song that made people wanted to loosen the belts and let down their hair, have fun and get real nice to. The idea behind the Holly was a thought I had that everyone is constantly held back by self-doubt and alcohol with its capacity to dissolve inhibitions removes some troublesome but can at the same time exacerbate depressive thoughts. Weird mix. This Guy Fux really puts it together with an intense chaotic synth drive and four on the floor thick kick throughout.
“It is comforting, even necessary, that we have a song that takes the form of the vast temporal and special dimensions of Hollywood. Like the pain it describes, “Hollywood” is something preventable, avoidable, self-made, and embroiled in a vast network of power. It mirrors the unpreventable march of self inflicted suffering. I feel its comprehensibly beautiful vibrations through his craftful use of profanity and each lyric subtly violates my physical body and yet soothes my soul as I feel my mind gain clarity, one fading thought at a time.
What Maverick creates transcends mere sound and goes straight for the evoking of emotions and relatability we all have for striving for our place in the world. There’s nothing I love more than laying back with some rolled up jazz cabbage and allowing Maverick’s artful touch to penetrate through my physical body and touch me deeply with it’s slow rhythm vibrating into my ear holes in the unsubtle, unlubricated and sometimes hurtful fashion only a true artist like Maverick Holiday can provide.”
– weird review of Hollywood from a listener.
Which ones would you consider your main influences both music-wise & non-music-wise?
I try to follow my intuition and create in accordance with my on interest and I am inspired by the truest examples of that Kanye West (the man, the myth, the legend), Alex Cameron and Client liaison. Non-music-wise, my mum, may she rest in peace. She was number one.
In what way does your sound differ from the rest genre-related artists/bands and why should we listen to your music? In other words, how would you describe your sound?
I am definitely absorbing styles and sounds from other artists from years of listening to the hip-hop greats to the modern connoisseurs of vibe. I’d like to think I have a unique blend of street and club – is champagne disco hip-hop a genre? Has any artist done Maverick Holiday yet? I just want to do me. I want to get vulnerable to show that we all share similar human experiences, fears and desires. I also wanna stand as testament to the happy broke artist who didn’t put what they love doing behind getting a career for money, embracing the fears that are involved in that and breaking through people’s expectations of me and the ones I have of myself.
