This year’s BRIT Awards took place last night (February 22nd) at the O2 Arena in London with Emma Willis as host. Canadian singer Michael Bublé was originally set to host but backed out four days after the nominations were announced due to his son battling liver cancer. Performances among others included Chris Martin of Coldplay’s tribute to the late pop icon George Michael, Skepta with ‘Shutdown‘, and collaborations pairing The Chainsmokers and Coldplay (for their newly released song, ‘Something Just Like This‘), and Ed Sheeran with Stormzy (singing Sheeran’s latest two singles ‘Castle On The Hill‘ and ‘Shape Of You‘). Noel Gallagher presented the Best British Album award posthumously to David Bowie for 2016‘s ‘Blackstar‘, with Bowie’s son Duncan Jones accepting. Bowie was also posthumously named Best British Solo Artist. The 1975 won Best British Group, beating the likes of Bastille, Biffy Clyro, Little Mix and Radiohead. Upon accepting the award, frontman Matty Healy said: “The only thing we tried to do with our album was to get to that place… And I just want to say… if you have a platform, don’t [stay in your lane].” Missing among the winners of last night’s ceremony was noticeably grime artists Skepta, Stormzy, and Kano. Skepta was given a shout-out by Drake when the Canadian rapper accepted his award for Best International Male. Below is a full list of the winners:
