Lindsay Everly

‘Outcast’

[americana/folk rock]

Press Notes:

A suitcase – the start of something new, often the end of something old. Collections of stories can be created, from using only one. Americana music at its roots, Lindsay Everly’s songs tell tales of the traveler – in foreign lands, small cafe’s, on the cold streets of Chicago, in the golden hills of Fairfax, California – where she currently calls home. Pedal steel, Hammond B3 organ, mandolin, acoustic guitar, live drums and haunting folk vocal melodies combine to create music that feels like a nostalgic, distant memory. Her musical influences include Alison Krauss and Union Station, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Jo Dee Mesina and Nickel Creek.

Vorsen

‘Radio’

[indie folk]

Press Notes:

Vorsen is the name for London-based, British/Australian producer Oliver Halvorsen. Having relocated at a young age to Western Australia from London, Oliver spent most of his youth playing with teenage bands and dabbling on guitar, making mediocre recordings in his bedroom. Having composed and recorded hundreds of songs at his parents’ house, he was invited to study at the Western Academy of Performing Arts and spent the following years creating melancholic/alternative pop in his parents’ house. After cutting his teeth in studios and learning from some of Perth’s most notable producers (Joel Quatermaine/Andrew Lawson), Oliver moved back to his birth town of London and joined UK act ‘NIGHT FLIGHT’.

While touring and playing with NIGHT FLIGHT, Oliver released his debut single ’Say All the Right Things’ in 2019 which was featured on triple J’s ‘5 Best New Songs of the Week’ and received praise from triple J presenters and other major radio stations back in Australia. The track was considered an “instant classic” (Chillfiltr) or as Claire Mooney (triple J) put it – “so special.” Afterwards, he continued to produce for a handful of other artists and wrote top line melodies for tracks that were later released on Armada records.

In 2020, Oliver began work on his forthcoming EP ‘Real Life’ in the bedroom of his London flat after the end of a significant relationship. Having produced these songs in his bedroom, Vorsen weaves lush atmospheric textures with percussive elements of his immediate surroundings to create a seamless mesh of the musician’s past endeavours. His warm, intimate vocals deliver the melancholic melodies of each song in a way that is both gut wrenching and uplifting. Oliver continues to successfully juxtapose the emotion in his lyrics with bold and organic production that is simply stunning.

Rebecca Rain

‘I Don’t Take Shit’

[country/alt pop]

Press Notes:

For Rebecca Rain, there are three things that matter most – family, the small town she grew up in, and music. While that list may read like different things, in a very real way they are all simply parts of the same whole that drives her passion. That’s because there’s something about growing up in a small town… The lines between family, friends and strangers are drawn thinner and lighter – strangers become friends, friends become family, and family is inseparable from one’s self.

Part of the package of growing up with the small town life for Rebecca was a very early exposure to country music. Drawing influences from childhood favourites like Loretta Lynn, June Carter Cash, and Patsy Cline, Mrs Rain has crafted a sound that is equally modern and traditional, all delivered by a voice that is hauntingly pure, and with a reflective songwriting style wise beyond her years.

Medicine Hat

‘Sadie’

[americana/alt-country]

Press Notes:

Medicine Hat was born over the ashes of a campfire, as Michelle and Robert created their unique vocal style, that would become the group’s signature sound. Weaving their ideas, voices and melodies into one, they sing about love lost and runaway journeys down lonely highways. With a nostalgic nod to their influences of the past, they create a vibe that is both familiar and fresh. A hazy, wistful Americana with lush, soul haunting guitar work and melodious harmonies, filtered through a soft psychedelic lens.

With the fan coined term “Lonesome Desert Rock” as their tag, they continue to win over listeners with their gritty authenticity.

‘Geoff’s Ghost’

[country/americana]

Angry Zeta

‘You Think You’re Neat’

[bluegrass/Southern rock]

Press Notes:

Trained by the distracted audiences of the streets of Buenos Aires, Angry Zeta learned early how to get a crowd’s attention – and once they have it you won’t be able to look away. Fast is their tempo of choice, and loud is how they make themselves known. They will be heard. Any room they play will be filled with their iconic bluegrass-country-punk sound.

They are comfortable performing in any location, for any gathering. They’ve played barber shops, breweries, motorcycle conventions, antique or RAT car conventions, food truck events, weddings, birthdays, tattoo shops, country festivals, line dance gatherings, on the stage or on the floor, unplugged or amplified, drunk or sober, outside or inside, in the living room, in the bathroom, on the bus, on the subway, on the streets – wherever!

Historian

‘Well Worn Road’

[folk/indie rock]

Press Notes:

Historian is the ethereal brainchild of LA-native Chris Karman. Karman describes Historian’s sound as “headphone music”. That’s precisely what it is: music for anyone who likes to get lost when they put a record on, who wants to be immersed. After his first record, Shelf Life, Karman converted his then studio project into a full-fledged band. With the help he fleshed out and alter the direction that Historian was headed. His sophomore release, Current, was crafted with production assistance from Be Hussey(Radar Brothers, Guides). Current also features strings from Quartetto Fantastico, whose members have recently worked with Father John Misty and Flying Lotus, among others.

With obvious nods to some of the great British album bands – Spiritualized, Radiohead and even Pink Floyd – Historian’s music at times resembles a soundscape onto which Karman works increasingly wild brushstrokes. Critics have already warmed to Historian’s unique sound. His music has been described as “both nightmarish and dreamlike” or as “sitting on the edge between creative containment and cathartic release”.

Thomas Bull

‘Skin and Bones’

[indie folk]

Press Notes:

Thomas Bull is a folk singer. His latest project is a collection of Woody Guthrie songs reimagined for the modern audience. Bull said ‘At the start of the pandemic I felt drawn to Guthrie’s songs more than ever before… they talk such sense, and were a great comfort in a time of unprecedented upheaval. There is a timelessness to his songs… which I have tried to bring out in these recordings.’ Celebrated banjo player, Dan Walsh, features on the record which will be released in full later this year. The lead single – Hard Travelin’ – showcases Bull’s fascinating take on this classic material, and brings Guthrie’s work leaping back into life.

In 2014 Bull made the Glastonbury Emerging Talent finals, and performed four shows at the festival later that year. He has since spent time in Nashville where he has written with grammy award winning producer, Paul Ebersold, and with Jason Isbell’s right hand man Sadler Vaden. The resulting material was released under another name and saw Bull supporting artists including Dr John, Candi Staton, James Hunter, Booker T and Ronnie Wood.

Bull later switched sides and became a full time booking agent for heritage artists. For several years Bull booked household names and industry legends into shows and festivals all over the world, continuing to write songs when he could. Lockdown provided some space to record this original material, which is now being released.

Skinny Dippers

‘Icarus Emerged’

[indie folk/acoustic]

Press Notes:

Skinny Dippers is a Brooklyn NY based Indie Music project fronted by singer/songwriter Ryan Gross. Drawing from his roots growing up on the coast of Maine, his style spans a broad range of genres by blending guitar driven indie rock arrangements with analog synthesizers and choral harmonies. The songwriting shares intimate moments through understated lyricism while turning them into feelings every listener can relate to. Musically the band pulls from a number of influences including artists like Hovvdy, TOLEDO, The Shins, and Stephen Malkmus.

In 2021 Gross enlisted the help of neighbors Jordan Dunn-Pilz and Dan Alvarez of the band TOLEDO to join as collaborators and producers on his debut album The Town & The City. The songs blend Indie-Rock, Folk, and Dream Pop forming a collection of stories about growing up on the rural coast and moving into adulthood in the depths of New York City.
