The collaborative project in tribute to the iconic Christa Päffgen, aka Nico, between Berlin/New York musical-artist trio Soundwalk Collective, NY-based musician/producer Jesse Paris Smith (Patti Smith’s daughter) and the legendary Patti Smith herself has unveiled the visuals for the title track of the forthcoming album ‘Killer Road’ out via Bella Union (Europe) /Sacred Bones (US) next September.
The video is set in the Balearic island of Ibiza where Nico tragically passed away in 1988 and conceived as an imaginary vision of her last day.
The lyrics of ‘Killer Road’ are based on an unpublished poem written by the Velvet Underground chanteuse before her death, a tale of a fortuitous meeting on a New York-bound flight between two passengers (Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective founder Stephan Crasneanscki).
Initially conceived as a live audio-visual experience, ‘Killer Road‘ consists of eight Patty Smith’s interpretations and arrangements of Nico lyrics, mainly taken from classic LPs such as ‘Desert Shore’ and ‘Drama Of Exile’.
