It’s really disheartening writing and spreading the word of such sad news like the passing away of one of the most beloved and characteristic voices, like Leonard Cohen‘s one. And yes, once again 2016 is a very sad year from many aspects.

It’s also very hard to discriminate objective to subjective. I won’t try it hard. Leonard Cohen is not with us anymore.  The Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist with a nearly 50 year career died yesterday at the age of 82. His label Sony Music Canada, confirmed Cohen’s death with the following statement on Facebook:

It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”

No cause of death was given.

His latest album ‘You Want It Darker was released a few days ago, October 21st.

I won’t try at all to sum up Leonard’s career or even discography in a few words. There’s no point since you can find this information on numerous music/ non-music webzines. Instead, I will try to describe what he meant for me with the following words…

‘Leonard was an outpost for me. A safe place I could hide and listen to his stories, trying to connect with them and associate with my own universe. Yes, the man was brave enough to sing mostly about love, sexual relationships in the most poetic way. He was like an old, wise friend of yours telling you secrets about life, relationships and above all…love. Cigarettes, alcohol, night, relationships, talking…’

Thank you for your company buddy. See you in heavens…
