Yaeji may be familiar to those special mortals who spend hours on end inside a club, but for those who don’t, here’s a little cheat-sheet. She was born in NYC in 1993 but spent most of her pivotal years in South Korea, also living in Japan for a short time. Her first single ‘New York ’93‘ was released in 2016 via Godmode, and her first EP was released in March of last year. Her popularity has risen in the past few months after she remixed Drake’s ‘Passionfruit‘ during a Boiler Session, and performed at 2018’s Coachella Festival. Her music has been described as avant-garde, house, tripped-out, trap and hip-hop.
Now currently based out of Brooklyn the artist’s last release came in the form of November’s EP ‘EP2‘, whose single ‘Raingurl‘ you can check out below. If you’re interested in seeing this genuine artiste perform live and in person, well you’re in luck, she’s just announced a series of tour dates worldwide. Most of her July and August will be spent crooning over beats to festival-goers, beginning tonight at Ottawa’s Bluesfest and making stops at Sweden’s Way Out West Festival and the Netherlands’ Lowlands Festival on the way. After a September gig-hiatus, you’ll be able to find Yaeji in more intimate venues in the US such as Chicago’s Thalia Hall and Boston’s Paradise Rock Club among others. ‘EP2‘ can be found for streaming on Godmode’s SoundCloud, and for purchase via the usual channels.
