In the performance “Faded“, Ioannis Mandafounis has created a marathon evening consisting of a series of variations that he executes to the point of total exhaustion in tribute to the story decreed for dancers at the end of their career. Accompanied onstage by a ballet mistress, the choreographer revives his first love, taking his bow and bidding farewell to the stage as a dancer.
Faded is unequivocal, abounding with classic images and the comparisons possible therein. Each step, each intention, can be traced to its origin in the grand tradition of classical ballet.
Faded depicts the end of an artistic journey and the transition to a new phase of life. Ioannis Mandafounis candidly shares what happens behind the decor of an artistic life with his audience, the daily life of a dancer who has been brought to this precise moment.
