Long Island, New York might not be the typical hub for country-Americana music with a deep rural connection, but your perspective could shift when you immerse yourself in the sounds of singer-songwriter Delaney Hafener, the driving force behind The Belle Curves. Her latest creation, Private Oceans, was inspired by a particularly enjoyable, perhaps excessively enjoyable, stay in New Orleans. Growing up just outside the Hamptons on Long Island, where there’s abundant natural beauty but much of it remains out of reach for most people, Private Oceans is an ode to trusting yourself, leaving behind something pristine and intimate for something messy yet authentic and shared. It’s about embracing flirtation, which is, according to Delaney, good for the soul, and making up for the two years lost to a global pandemic. Plus, it tips its hat to the great Townes Van Zandt for good measure.
