It’s often said that art can be the best remedy for grief, pain, and loss, and this is certainly true for Olive Louise and her remarkable indie pop, with gentle folk finishing touches, single Moroccan Oranges. The song was inspired by the passing of her mother, and its vibrant blend of folk and pop elements contrasts poignant lyrics about inner strength and the struggle to hold life and family together during times of grief. One might expect the song to be heavy with emotion and tragedy, but instead, it’s an uplifting indie pop gem with a super catchy chorus and angelic vocals that only hint at the underlying loss.
Olive confides, “the song is about the summer I traveled to Morocco and Paris with my dad and sister after my mom passed away. It’s about the dissonance I felt looking at my dad trying to hold it together and make us feel okay, knowing that even though we were seeing stunning views, and trying new foods, and were there together, we felt completely shattered.”
The track is off of Louise’s debut cathartic and enthralling EP 275 Kings Point Road.
