Vocalist/Composer from Chicago, IL Mordian‘s cover of iconic Bathory’s masterpiece Ring of Gold recently caught our attention. The artist’s interpretation of this song takes a new direction, infusing it with a pagan folk influence. The mournful vocal performance and the stripped-down and intimate sound will draw the listener to Quorthon’s majestic world.

“Though there are many songs that have lent a hand in shaping the person I am today, musically and spiritually, one of the first to come to mind would be Ring of Gold.” Mordian offers, “This is my tribute to the legend that is Bathory. Hail Quorthon!”

The filmed and edited by James Gregor accompanying video is also splendid!

“…In dawn of time, before gods and man
When earth and shy was first divided
A star did fall into river deep
A star of gold into silvery water
While I sail, by this you shall remember me
Wear it, yours forever to deep
To bind us beyond end of time, to thee I give a ring of gold
