Police Patrol the Border emerges as a hauntingly beautiful psych-folk ballad from Michael James Tapscott‘s recently released EP, Charlie No-Face, under Royal Oakie Records. This ethereal track showcases the legendary vocals of psych-folk artist Ed Askew and incorporates contributions from members of Odawas and Sugar Candy Mountain. Produced and mixed by David Glasebrook, known for his work with Sam Burton and Patti Smith, the song captures a mesmerizing blend of haunting melodies and poetic storytelling, offering a captivating glimpse into Tapscott’s sonic artistry.
“Taking a blind chance, I asked Ed Askew if he would sing on one of my tunes. I sent him a rough mix of “Police Patrol the Border” with no instructions. In a week, he sent me tracks. Ed is one of my favorite artists of all time and would be a legend based on the reputation of his 1968 psych-folk classic Ask the Unicorn alone, but it is his perseverance as an artist and his later work that resonates most with me. It was an honor of a lifetime to have Ed sing this track. It is a spooky song and his gravitas was needed.” – Michael James Tapscott
