London-based artist Matt-Felix continues to captivate audiences with his latest track, 1917, following the success of his debut single Leave, Just to Stay last month. He explains: “‘1917’ was a definite ‘breakthrough’ moment for me as a songwriter. It seemed to have opened so many different doors for me. I wrote it about two years ago while reading George Orwell’s 1984. What the relevance is lyrically, I have no idea, but it makes some sort of sense to me. I imagined the character living in that world. The chords/rhythm came first, which I wrote on my friend’s piano. I didn’t think much of it for six months and then came back to it and wrote all the lyrics. I’m definitely playing some kind of character when I sing it.”
