Hailing from Massachusetts, singer-songwriter Meredith Sheldon, also known as LA MERE, makes a triumphant return with Cherry-Coloured Funk, a daring reinterpretation of the iconic Cocteau Twins. An homage to 4AD Records, the track swirls with hazy indie-pop melodies, Meredith’s vocals glimmering amidst Johnny Marr’s (The Smiths) guitar artistry and Anthony Saffery’s (Cornershop) skillful production. While covering such masterpieces is rare, LA MERE’s rendition emerges as a resounding success, celebrating the past while adding her unique brilliance to the mix.
Meredith says: “This Cocteau Twins’ song has always been very moving for me. My producer Anthony and I had the idea one freezing cold night in Cambridge to make a version of it in our style with Johnny Marr’s shimmering guitar layered in and loads of vocal layers. It was really a joy to make.”
