Hoagie is the artistic alias of Dave Holgado, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Portland, Oregon. Holgado is gearing up to release his debut album, Other Folks, via Buncha Bands Records on September 29th. The album’s ninth track, Hanging Around, is a poignant yet resolute exploration of the artist’s journey, delving into the challenges faced once the initial excitement of pursuing the creative path has faded. The song addresses the everyday struggles artists encounter, from the small annoyances of peers to the lack of understanding and support from loved ones, and even plain bad luck. Despite these obstacles, Hanging Around carries a self-affirming message, encouraging artists to persevere and continue their creative work because, despite the challenges, it’s ultimately more rewarding than abandoning their artistic pursuits for a safer but less fulfilling life.

An excellent indie folk-rock ballad produced, engineered, and mixed by Joe Michelini (American Trappist), and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, featuring Lyle de Vitry on cello, as well as Max Kulicke on guitar, Joe Michelini on bass, and Shane Luckenbaugh on drums
