Today marks the release of an extraordinary debut album, Climbing Up The Chimney, by the talented 26-year-old Swedish-American songwriter and animator, Grimson, who spent his formative years in the vibrant backdrop of New York City. A standout among the tracks is the latest single, Round Trip Ticket, a poignant narrative that traces the heart-wrenching separation of Grimson’s family across continents during his childhood. What makes this song even more remarkable is its origin. Grimson originally penned the lyrics as a tender poem for an elementary school assignment at the tender age of 7. As he honed his guitar skills over the years, he transformed the text into a folk song reminiscent of the lyrical prowess of Dylan, complete with evocative harmonica solos. Now residing in Berlin, where he has once again reunited with his father, Round Trip Ticket has undergone a profound transformation. The harmonica solos have given way to opulent string arrangements and indie rock drum patterns. This Berlin recording infuses the family narrative with a compelling blend of maturity and childlike wonder, creating a musical tapestry that is both powerful and deeply moving.
