Multi-talented Grace McLean (writer, composer, actress, and singer) has just released her awesome new single, Albertine, a fine taste from her upcoming album My Lovely Enemy, due out on May 10th. Teaming up with her producer and bassist, Justin Goldner, joining their pain arising from loves lost, they’ve created art coming directly from the heart.
Grace’s influence comes from alternative and indie pop such as St. Vincent and tUnE-yArDs, although Albertine has also a strong taste of musical and cinema. Her crystal-clear voice reminds me of Emilie Autumn in her orchestral albums.
The song starts as a fragile pop ballad but within three minutes it evolves into powerful symphonic electro-rock. Piano, strings, a little bit of cajon, a strong bass background and explosive, chaotic drums towards the end, all give Grace a beautiful field to lay her voice on. Mixing by Jack DeBoe (Jean Baptiste, Tyler the Creator, Yebba) and mastering by Blake Morgan (Lenny Kravitz, Lesley Gore, Janita) are both flawless gifting us with every detail that makes this a wonderfully written and performed song.
My Lovely Enemy is promising to be a great album, and this single is just a taste of the musical journey they’re taking us on. Can’t wait for May 10th!
