Californian Gary Dranow and his band The Manic Emotions, with members hailing as far as Australia and Ukraine, are gearing up for their full-length LP Never Give Up to be released in the near future. As a teaser to keep our ears peeled for what’s to come, they have released Floating Away, a new alternative rock single, crafted by Dranow and musical partner Chris Zuopa (member of Teramaze). Without any context, Floating Away is both an uplifting and melancholic track, classic rock minded with bluesy folk overtures, telling the story of a meeting between two friends catching up in a bagel shop after a span of 10 years passed. The pair reminisce over the highs and lows of the past decade, and despite the clear pain expressed, Floating Away remains incredibly hopeful. The track was written about a meeting singer and bandleader Dranow had with lifelong friend Harold Deblanc, a year after Deblanc had lost his wife to suicide, and with such context takes on a new meaning, feeling more heartbreaking and a hundred times more soothing, bringing to mind healing moments and encounters with loved ones in the listener’s own life.
