Gabriel Abedi, hailing from Italy with Ghanaian roots, recently unveiled his second single, Bra Fie (“come home” in Twi). Drawing inspiration from the rhythmic and melodic elements of Adwoa, a traditional Akan dance-drumming of Ghana’s Ashanti people, Abedi infuses traditional Akan bells and drums with his classical and jazz influences. The piece’s title and its warm, dreamy atmosphere are a reflection of Abedi’s deep emotional connection to Ghana, where he experienced a sense of belonging for the first time, despite being raised far from his homeland.
