The alternative punk band Family Man recently unleashed their intense track, FATHER JOHN, driven by lead singer and guitarist Conner Root’s seething anger and deep contempt for his experiences within the private Catholic school system. The song is a raw, unfiltered account of Conner’s time at Loyola High School of Los Angeles, a place he describes as a “cesspool of toxic masculinity, archaic Catholic mindsets, blatant racism, and willfully ignorant rich kids.” This experience forced Conner to suppress various aspects of his identity, including his sexuality and sense of self.
