Berlin via Aotearoa and NYC based experimental art-rock collective Cautionary Tales, consiting of Will Marshall (vocals, keyboards), Karl Weber (guitar, backing vocals), Martyn Matthews (synthesizers, Rhodes, Hammond), Taylor Mallo (bass) and David Binnie (drums), with contributions from Kyle Hussa-Lietz (guitars), recently shared their 8 minute magnum opus No Funeral Blues. The track is an absolute slow-burner treat with impressive atmosphere, great narrative style and vocals reminiscent of great Nick Cave, while genre-wise is a bold mixture of post rock with art rock and a healthy dose of experimentation. According to the press release, the song is an adaptation of Auden’s seminal eulogy Funeral Blues, written for a close friend who overdosed in the initial stages of the Covid epidemic and is the precursor single to the band’s debut album, due out on August 18th.
