Boréalys, the black metal project hailing from northern Quebec, recently unveiled their 7-track album, L’héritage. The opener, Apitipik: Vers l’orphelinat, is a 13+ minute magnum opus that fans of more experimental and avant-garde, black metal sounds will undoubtedly embrace. It evokes the epic grandeur reminiscent of Black Cascade-era Wolves In The Throne Room, coupled with the desolate ambiance of Shining, and a touch of the majestic, almost operatic black metal akin to the Austrian behemoths, Summoning. All of this is filtered through Boréalys’ unique artistic lens, which dominates the composition and allows this track to shine as a masterpiece of the genre.
