tenor

2016 strikes again unfortunately.

From The Freestylers‘ FaceBook page :

We’re absolutely devastated by the great loss of our long term friend and sparring partner the legendary TenorFly. His music touched so many people around the world and it knew no boundaries. He was a Pioneer, a Showman and true Gentleman. It was a pleasure making music, touring and generally having fun with you.Your legacy will live on forever. Peace

Born Jonathan Sutter in Brixton, London he started his career with Lloyd Coxsone’s International Sound System, working alongside such dignitaries as Jah Screechy and Blacker Dread.

In 1989, one of his first releases, ‘Roughneck Fashion’, topped the UK reggae chart, and was swiftly followed by the equally successful ‘Inner Cities’.

Noteworthy are his collaborations with other artists such as the Rebel MC a.k.a. Congo Natty and Barrington Levy.

In the mid 1990s he was involved in the rising drum & bass/jungle scene and joined the electronic/breakbeat duo The Freestylers with his signature MCing voice.

A true legend, just 48 years old.  We’ll miss you “Mr Badman”!
