Katie Colt, aka goodkitty, has just released ‘Picture Albums’ the debut EP for the Chicago-area based singer-songwriter. ‘Picture Albums’ lyrical output is gorgeously written, with listeners able to hear the care and attention in each couplet. Overall, the EP is straight up indie pop, with some rock and country twangs sprinkled throughout, like little gold nuggets for flare. It tends to be leisurely and contemplative with catchy hooks and a nostalgic atmosphere that easily leads one to imagine a late 90s/early 2000s coming of age film in their mind from start to finish.
‘Red’, the first track off the EP is a top-notch pop tune, for fans of Liz Phair. The production (which is all goodkitty herself, with the vital aid of the co-producer Andrew Arbetter) is seamless, with layering instrumentation and perfect timing. ‘Sabrina’ is the lead single off the EP and the owner of the most upbeat, driving chorus on ‘Picture Albums’. It’s earworm potential is secured halfway through and will have you falling for Sabrina, whoever she may be. My possible favorite (it’s up there with ‘Red’) is the final track ‘Holding On To You’. Another chorus that begs to be sung along, it’s filled with hope for the future and will make a lovely addition to any playlist you’re making for your sweetheart.
Take a listen to ‘Picture Albums’ and let’s all be on the lookout for further goodkitty releases.
