Duncan Spencer – ‘Silhouettes’

About Duncan Spencer

Raised by a music-obsessed father (and a patient mother) who transformed the family’s spare room with a 3,000-strong record collection, it is hardly a surprise that Duncan Spencer’s music is a melting pot of genres and influences. He sings of heartbreak and hope, of hardship and history and wraps it in the best of blues, soul, folk and rock.

With so much music at his disposal, childhood evenings would be spent picking records at random and delving in with the type of unrelenting enthusiasm only afforded to youth. On one such evening he chanced upon Darkness on the Edge of Town and like so many others was immediately seduced by the poetry of Bruce Springsteen. Years of having ears only for the guitar were swept away by the power of wordsmiths and narrative in a single evening. The door now ajar, the beckoning voices of Waits, Morrison, Gaye and Dylan soon followed Springsteen’s and began to greatly shape his sound as a songwriter.

Auld Spells – ‘Dead Gurl’

About Auld Spells

Auld Spells makes psychotropic sounds with dreampop undertones. The Edinburgh-based five piece is made up of lead singer and guitarist Tommy Danbury; keyboardist Rob Spellsman; drummer Peter Wilson of the band Rome and Murray and Sandy Raeburn of the Raeburn Brothers on guitar and bass. The band’s reverb-drenched melodies – in the vein of Beach House, Neil Young, Nick Cave, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive – brew a luminous tonic for strange times.

Tommy, the band’s principle songwriter, started in Washington DC’s 90’s hardcore punk scene before venturing into the indie and psych scenes of Virginia. In Los Angeles, he helped found the shoegaze band Lower Heaven as lead guitarist then joined the psych band Magic Mirror as their bass player. He’s shared the stage with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Angels, Dead Meadow, The Warlocks, Spindrift, The Lilys, Wooden Shjips, and others on legendary stages such as the Wiltern and the Troubadour.

Auld Spells formed in 2019 when Tommy relocated to Edinburgh. The band has headlined shows at local Edinburgh venues Leith Depot, Henry’s Cellar Bar, and Sneaky Petes and has been busy in the studio, waiting for venues to reopen and releasing a song a month for the foreseeable future.

Excuse Me. – ‘Cheap Thrills’

About Excuse Me.

Excuse Me. is Adam Kuhrt, Aleks Liskauskas, Dylan Creed, Heyden Reay, and Jo Seymour; a five-piece alternative rock group from Guelph Ontario. The band formed at the University of Guelph in 2017.

We started our journey practicing in a cramped bedroom space, and somehow ended up in an even smaller one; but our dreams have never been bigger.

Being in a band can feel like a blur of sweaty solos, mosh-pits, and burritos; but our goal has always been clear: to make art that speaks to people. The songs we create are stories that help to navigate this chaotic modern world. We feel that if our music truly connects with people, we can build a strong community of tolerance and healing.

Excuse Me’s contemporary sound is the result of our five distinct musical backgrounds. When we write songs, we constantly draw upon our past experiences to bring unique stories to life. Ultimately, we want to change the world and have fun doing it, but we’d settle for some good tunes and loving fans…and maybe a couple Grammys.
