Sharky  – ‘Concret’

About Sharky

Sharky (AKA Georgia Mason) brings to life a world of colourful surrealism with ambiguous lyrics and a distinctive vocal styling, drawing on aspects of Soul and Jazz, touching on Hip Hop, and swirling with indie and art rock essence.

Long before becoming Sharky, Georgia Mason always loved sharks; “when I was small, I would sit in the pub and tell people all about them”. With her grandad a paratrooper in the army, Sharky’s family settled in Aldershot, a military town in Hampshire. Growing up close to her grandparents, Sharky would listen to her Nan – Joan – singing around the house. Georgia began to craft the unique Sharky sound taking inspiration from Joan’s high soprano tones and the cross-generational vocal similarities with the women in her family.

After a spell of writing as ‘Georgia Mason’, she started to collaborate with other artists including Speakman Sound, Franc Moody and LONO. In this musical collective, she found a home of like-minded and creative free spirits. Stirring these artists in a mixing pot of entertaining collaboration, late night sessions, true experimentation, and self-exploration; Sharky’s musical project came to life. Steering the ship alongside Sharky was producer Todd Speakman (Speakman Sound, LONO), with the duo’s relationship growing into a strong bond, both musically and privately – If Sharky is a shark, Todd is at least one fin.

NTHN – ‘Day By Day’

About NTHN

NTHN is a UK cloud rap artist, producer and member of independent collective eighteenSAINT, founded with close friends Fletcher, James & Teorstan.

NTHN spent much of his early life primarily listening to emo and metal music but later developed a love for hip hop, fascinated by the use of samples and production techniques. He began to create ambient instrumental hip hop by manipulating old recordings and street samples, which would later form the basis of his sound as an artist. His dark ambient style took influence from Deftones and shoegaze artists, alongside Cloud Rap and experimental producers Clams Casino, xxyyxx and Shlohmo, though it would take him a while before adding his own vocals to his tracks.

It was only when he heard emo rap artists such as Lil Peep and Brennan Savage that he realised there was a true place for him as a vocal artist within a genre that combined all of his musical tastes. He began to add vocals to his previously instrumental sound, which gave another layer of expression to his music through raw and honest lyrics relating to his personal experiences.

Describing his creative process as ‘cloudsampling’, NTHN transforms casually recorded street samples into layered, airy soundscapes. His vocal style takes influence from Oliver Francis and 6LACK and he uses his music to break down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and displays of vulnerability.
