Make Friends – ‘Fever’

About Make Friends

Make Friends began their journey together 6 years ago, bringing together a group of friends who shared an interest in modern indie-pop music. Inspired by the indie-dance punk of ‘Antidotes’-Era Foals and the melodic alt-pop of Bombay Bicycle Club, the band fused these influences on debut EP ‘Hi’.

The EP produced firm fan favourite single ‘Ellie’, their first track to reach over half a million plays and earned them the chance to perform a BBC Introducing live session at the prestigious Maida Vale Studios at the end of 2019.

Buoyed by their session, Make Friends began writing their next set of releases spawning the tracks ‘When Nothing’s Said’ and Amazing Radio favourite ‘Knowing Makes It Worse’. The implementation of national lockdown saw the band hit their hottest creative streak to date, emerging with the refined groove of single ‘Hesitate’ and big riffing release ‘Kung Fu’. The back end of 2020 saw them write a new EP’s worth of material, with the first release ‘Sleep Sound’ coming out on 14th May 2021, closely followed by ‘Call Me Out’ on July 2nd.

Despite a year with no live music in 2020, Make Friends have been signed to Marshall’s exciting new live agency (Marshall Live Agency), who have already booked a nationwide tour for the end of the year, working alongside some of the UK’s best promoters (DHP, CloseUp). The band are also booked in to play a number of support slots with LAB Records’ King No-One on their autumn tour and have already performed on Scruff of The Neck’s live Twitch streams to over 3500 people. They are also scheduled to play several UK Festivals this year, including Dot To Dot and Wild Paths.

Qwiet Type – ‘Taking On Water’

About Qwiet Type

Florida-based songwriter and entertainer Matt Powell, known by his stage moniker Qwiet Type, has been blowing up streaming platforms with a unique mix of indie rock and beat-driven electropop that teems with positive energy. Inspired by a broad range of genres, his pure vocals are reminiscent of pop icon Phil Collins, stretching relaxed, euphoric melodies across compelling percussion. Qwiet Type’s tracks blend the mass appeal of enduring pop-rock groups like Maroon 5 and The Police with the anything-goes spirit of eclectic indie groups like Ambulance LTD and Kings of Convenience. Through dynamic arrangements and optimistic lyrics, Qwiet Type urges listeners to ride out the bad times until the good times return.

A drummer since early childhood, Qwiet Type picked up other instruments by ear, eventually forming successful alt-rock band Elliptical and later founding several Atlanta-based entertainment and music companies. In 2019, he returned to his first love—making music—and teamed up with producer Taylor Franklyn to release a set of well-received singles that quickly gained traction across multiple streaming platforms. The pair continued to collaborate closely, writing and producing from Franklyn’s home studio and travelling to record with session musicians in Nashville. In 2020, when pandemic precautions halted planning for his breakout performance, Qwiet Type went on with the show, filming a full-length live concert sans audience and releasing one song at a time via YouTube.

Falana – ‘Energy’ (Feat. Sir Dauda)

About Falana

Born and raised in the Ontario suburb of Brampton, Falana’s upbringing was soundtracked by a diverse music selection that has shaped her penchant for genre-defiance. As soon as she was able to, she moved to Toronto to pursue music, and after a year of balancing day jobs and relentless gigging at night, Falana departed once again to Lagos in Nigeria. As she says, “In Lagos, everything started to make sense in my songwriting, even down to how I express myself with style and my hair”, and she began to use her sense of style as an extension of her artistry more than ever before. Having recently moved to London where she has begun writing for her debut album, she believes she has come full circle and completed her musical journey.

Hailed as “Nigeria’s coolest front row star” by Vogue, Falana stands out not only with her music, but also with stylistic expressions, and is known for her distinctive braid pom-poms, which have fans tagging her in fan art and pictures of their own hair, to which she says, “I feel like it’s become this signature for me that’s so powerful now”. Falana knows the importance of disrupting the often-one-dimensional view of women that we’re constantly shown by our newsfeeds. Falana says, “I think one of my main motivators is just being a different reference point – for African women, and women in general. I’m sexy, but I’m not selling sex. I’m different, but I’m still beautiful. I’m strong, but I’m soft. I care about how I am presented because what you see is what you know”.
