Grids & Dots – ‘What Happens to Friendships in Winter?’
About Grids & Dots
Grids & Dots are the melodic noise project of visual designers Daniel and Carmen Han-Minikus, with drummer-philosopher Gray Thomas. Trying to capture the sound of their busy inner-city lives with snippets of melody and romance, principal songwriter Daniel is trying to find visual smidgens of his life in a jumble of fruit-salad poetry and quirky observations about the everyday. Influenced by both 80s synth-pop sense of harmonies and the noise drenched shoegaze bands of the later decade, Grids & Dots try to balance melody with a reverb-saturated impressionistic sense of the cities they live in, by pushing the boundaries of indie pop with an experimental fringe.

SOUNDQ – ‘Disco Turista Antifascista’
About SOUNDQ
SOUNDQ (short for Soundquake) is the alias of Kuba Kubica – a dizzyingly-innovative alternative dance / outsider pop producer-vocalist from Krakow, Poland.
Kubica’s writing is characteristically Eastern European: clearer-eyed and more honest about the exigencies of life than Western electronic pop tends to be. Among other things, his songs explore the dynamics of interpersonal struggle, the vagaries and cruelties of fate, power imbalances, and the destabilization that comes from living between worlds. He’s matched that heady sentiment to electronic music that’s absolutely singular – music that draws from house, and bass, and old-school IDM, and even contemporary pop, but which simply doesn’t sound like anything else. It’s underground, catchy, danceable, and propulsive. It’s found an audience on both sides of the Atlantic because of the brave way forward it promises.

stef – ‘i used to build dreams about you.’
About stef
Stef wants you to feel something. The 21-year-old singer and songwriter makes music that is deeply felt and close to the heart, exploring tenderness and toughness with equal parts honesty and attitude. Her second EP A Glitch In Our Virtual Reality is the latest fascinating step in this young artist’s career, with genre-blending songwriting and forward-thinking production providing the perfect pairing for Stef’s lyrical expressions. This is music that captures generational fears and ecstasies, as Stef documents her own pain and triumphs in a way that’s impossible not to relate to.
Stef was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, where heading down the path of a creative-based career was far from the norm: “Everyone’s pretty close-minded there, so the idea of me pursuing anything other than a college degree was very frowned-upon.” After an adolescence leading worship in church and becoming increasingly involved in theater and acting, Stef eventually decided to pursue music more seriously. “I was always around music, I just didn’t know that I wanted to do it as a career up until that point.”
While honing her songwriting craft in high school, Stef regularly traveled back and forth to Nashville, eventually moving to the city full-time in 2018 to pursue a career in music. Initially, Stef pursued a more country-leaning sound, but in 2019 she shifted her focus to pop music, inspired by emerging stars like Benee and Lennon Stella—and, as she puts it, “The rest is history.”

Alex Nauva – ‘Ring Ring’
About Alex Nauva
Alex Nauva is the frontman of the eastern Swiss post-punk band OGMH. With his solo project he creates his own take on contemporary electronic indie by experimenting with different genres. In 2017 he released his self-produced mini album “China Girls” which is a unique blend of techno and synthwave combined with his post-punk roots and lo-fi elements. Since then his fascination for synthesizers and drum machines grew so drastically that he released himself from his post-punk origins. This redefined Nauva’s electronic music and he shifted to focus on a more intimate approach to songwriting plus merging synthwave with dreampop and pop-hooks. This shift is first seen on his 2020 EP “Yume” and is far away from ending.

mehro – ‘chance with you’
About mehro
mehro’s songs sound like instant classics, and the simply exquisite “chance with you” is a love song for the ages. Passionate vocals croon over a folk-guitar musing on lost time as mehro confesses about a love he wishes he pursued: “If I could go back in time, I’d shoot my shot, just so I could have a chance with you.”
Cut from the same cloth as great songwriters like Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright, mehro brings a sincerity and maturity to music that is missing from the current pop-centric scene. From composition to lyrical imagery, mehro captures the essence of a soul much older and wiser than his own.
