The folk band formed in 2009 by Arthur Jeffes, son of the late Penguin Cafe Orchestra founder Simon Jeffes, following the death of the latter in 1997 and the group’s split up. Relaunched as Penguin Cafe, ‘The Imperfect Sea‘ will be the followup to 2014’s ‘The Red Book‘. The album title refers to a saying by Simon Jeffes “we wade in a sea of imperfections…” With Arthur Jeffes stating: “If there is a narrative to the album it’s coming to the acceptance of the imperfections in all aspects of life; moreover, the recognition that these imperfections and tiny randomnesses are in fact what make up the best parts.”

The nine-track album is mainly self-composed featuring covers of ‘Franz Schubert‘ by Kraftwerk and 2014‘s ‘Wheels Within Wheels‘ by Simian Mobile Disco, along with a re-working of Simon Jeffes’ ‘Now Nothing‘. Penguin Cafe also shared their first track off the album, ‘Cantorum‘.

The Imperfect Sea‘ is out through Erased Tapes Records on May 5.
