vinyl-service-1244-2

Bandcamp is finally offering what many artists have been screaming for from the rooftops: their own vinyl service. The crowdsourcing service for vinyl manufacturing is currently being tested with four pilot campaigns, but will be available to all artists and labels later this year. The service streamlines the financing, production, and fulfillment of vinyl records by pressing records, printing packaging, and shipping the final product to fans at no-out-of pocket cost to the artist. Artists have control over the design, vinyl campaign pricing, as well as the desired profit – and if you were worried the design choices for the records themselves might appear simplistic or boring, just check out Australian space-metal group Mesarthim’s campaign for ‘Ghost Condensate. Bandcamp’s manufacturing partner has over 60 years experience producing vinyl and ensures “your record will sound, and look, its best” due to their experience. The service is “ideal for offering vinyl at the same time as a digital pre-order, a first pressing of an existing digital-only release, or a repress of a sold out record,” according to Bandcamp themselves. This announcement follows the February 1st opening of their brick and mortar record store in Oakland, CA.
