Michael B Kowal keeps things simple on that’ll have to do, letting acoustic guitar, an easygoing roots arrangement and his naturally conversational songwriting carry the track. There is a relaxed Red Dirt and Americana feel throughout, with a touch of bluegrass character in the way the song moves, but the real strength comes from its understated sense of humor and resignation. Kowal writes about everyday life without trying to turn every small observation into something profound, finding plenty of character in the ordinary. The result feels lived in and unforced, with the kind of warmth that comes from a songwriter comfortable leaving a little space around his words. It is a modest song in the best sense, built on simple details, an honest voice and an acceptance that sometimes doing what can be done really is enough.

Sometimes imperfect is exactly where the song begins.
