Hailing from the north east of England, this father and son duo now dubbed Mercurius like the messenger of the gods has recently released their single Make A Difference, a follow-up to September’s Dead Or Alive. As per usual, the UK rock scene has been bubbling with interesting acts in all various subgenres lately, and you should keep your musical binoculars pointed at Mercurius (Newcastle natives) as well. Evocative of R.E.M and Guided By Voices, Make A Difference is a critique on society and seemingly governmental and authoritative forces, encouraging the listener to redeem their life, be who they want to be, go where they want to go. It’s not as hippy-dippy as it sounds, it has a biting attitude, a heavy-handed teaspoon of swagger, and for some odd reason reminded this reviewer of Clint Eastwood! For fans of: desert vibes, youthful punk anthems intoned in the style of Robert Pollard, guitar licks, and an indie rock atmosphere hinting towards jangle (though only hinting).
