Daniel R. Ball, a talented musician from Bristol and formerly a member of London shoegazers Sheen, has ventured into Leveller solo project. Upon listening to his debut single, the striking similarity to Robert Smith’s vocal expression immediately comes to mind. The vocals in this track carry a certain magical flair that evokes the spirit of Smith’s style. Additionally, the music itself exhibits an upbeat post-punk sound, which could be seen as a blend between the energetic vibes of Fascination Street” and Close To Me.
However, it’s important to note that while the influence of the iconic band The Cure may be noticeable, Fair Isle Automatic is far from being a mere copycat. The project skillfully merges the modern dark sound associated with Dais Records with the essence of 80s post-punk and new wave, all infused with Ball’s artistic prowess. This promising debut single has firmly placed Fair Isle Automatic on our radar, and we eagerly anticipate their future releases.
