Daybreak, the second single from Grandbrothers‘ new album Late Reflections (out April 14th via City Slang). creates a hypnotic sonic landscape by layering pulsating, gradually intensifying piano samples that are heavily treated with effects and filters. This intricate sound design creates an expansive atmosphere, offering the listener a glimpse into the grandeur of the space in which the music was recorded. By immersing the listener in a vast and complex sonic environment, Daybreak opens a door to a unique topography of sounds that invites exploration and discovery. The heavily distorted piano samples create an otherworldly sound that draws the listener in and adds to the overall sense of immersion, leaving a lasting impression that lingers long after the music has ended.

During the recording process, we found ourselves in a highly shifted rhythm. We worked exclusively at night until early morning. When we packed up our things around 6 a.m., the windows began to shine and the cathedral seemed to awaken. This visual transformation was central symbol of the recording process for us, that’s why ‘Daybreak’ is the album’s opener,” says Erol Sarp.
