Speaking of ‘Shillings’, she says, “A few years ago I came across a receipt of costs associated with the trial of two Scottish women convicted of witchcraft in the late 16th century. I found the obscurity of the outdated measurements and literal list of materials formed an interesting way to connect to a story that is sometimes emotionally impenetrable. I built a song around them, a sort of sonic memorial for the lost victims of modern society.

The materials in the list had this physical aspect, and the labour felt dynamic, it felt like I could interact with this part of history in a way that was dreamlike, or like a childhood memory, where all that’s left is texture and movement. So I just used the words as they appear on this receipt as the lyrics for the song, changing nothing except the lyric “13 shillings” – the payment made to the executioner.
