Knives, Bristolian post punk stalwarts, recently unleashed Doppelganger, following their hit cover of Kate Bush’s Babooshka. With a pop-infused twist, the track hits hard with Jay Schottlander’s fiery vocals, echoing punk ethos. Doppelganger confronts industry homophobia, exposing labels’ exploitative queerbaiting. Knives dive into the fray, wielding robust basslines and crunchy riffs, challenging the status quo. Their upcoming EP, What We See In Their Eyes, reflects Bristol’s simmering frustrations, inviting listeners to join the revolt.
This ain’t just music—it’s a rebellion. Knives sharpened, ready to cut through the noise, demanding change with every chord.
Of the single, drummer Erin Cook said “There are multiple instances of artists capitalising off of the queer community, while simultaneously fans only accepting queer icons if they’re deemed as ‘good enough’. In addition, on a more personal level, we’ve had experiences with people that preach about LGBTQ+ rights, yet also spout casual homophobia. We’ve seen so many instances of people not showing their true colours, which inspired the lyric “who is the man behind the mask?”.
