We feel more than enthusiastic for tonight’s exclusive premiere on Last Day Deaf, of Philadelphia’s Meet The Bug‘s (the solo project from singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Cariahbel Azemar) bedroom/electro pop gem ‘Stranger Is‘, ahead of its official release on November 4th. This is perhaps one of the sweetest breakup songs not from a boy/girl-friend, but by one’s parents(!), we’ve ever experienced, with the eerie vocals and heavenly melodies, and the self love/independence lyrics resulting in an utterly uncommon mix.

Catchy, deep and honest song-writing with a huge pop heart!

Press Notes:

Philadelphia’s Meet The Bug is thrilled to announce the release of her latest single Stranger Is, streaming everywhere November 4th, 2021.

About this song: This song was co-produced and mastered by Matias Van Order Gonzalez, my roommate and band mate— we also play in the band Glitterspitter together. We started writing it together in January after the release of my EP Worms on Keys. Matias did the drums and guitar, and I wrote the lyrics, recorded, produced, and mixed the track. Stranger Is is a song about self love and independence. It’s about setting boundaries with the people who think you owe them the most, and not looking back. It’s a break up song—not for a partner, but for your parents.

Bio:

Meet the Bug is a bedroom pop solo project from singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Cariahbel Azemar. Heavily inspired by Cavetown, Cariahbel combines candor and queerness to create songs that are sweet, light, and wholesome, yet also emotionally deep and complex.

Born in Port au Prince, Haiti and raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Cariahbel began taking classical piano lessons at the age of four. After falling out of love with classical piano in middle school, she turned to song writing as a way to reclaim some artistic control. She began producing music in 2017 and received a joint degree in music and film production from Bard College in 2019. She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA, and can regularly be found uploading covers to her YouTube channel and performing in many of Philly’s intimate house venues.
