A few days ago, on July 11, New Model Army unveiled the first single ‘Winter‘ out of their new homonym LP, out in late August. It is a typical N.M.A. song of the kind we love, listen and dance to. Acoustic guitars, strings, punky basslines, rockin’ drums and a groovy uplifting part as a second riff to the arrangement, all put to dress Sullivan’s vocals on his uneasy, anxious lyrics. This one is a song that describes life’s consequences and the winter of it, given as a straight line that has to be taken. Justin says about ‘Winter’: ‘Winter’ has a really strong identity. It is very much the sound of people in difficult places – something that so many of us can relate to at the moment, on a lot of different levels.

But this is actually what made the band unique and beloved through the decades: a rock band out of the people, for the people and our everyday struggles. Listen carefully and mind the lyrics. If I was asked to rate it, I’d positively say it’s a diamond, a 10.
